Board of Trustees

Led by Prof. OEHM Nxumalo as Chairman, the trustees are responsible for the oversight and governance of the Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi and Harry Oppenheimer Trust. They review and update strategy and areas of activity, including consideration of bursary grants, governance, risk management and reserves policies, as well as review of investments performance.
Prof. OEHM Nxumalo

Prof. OEHM Nxumalo: is a respected academic with vast experience, Professor at the University of Zululand, a former First Director General in KwaZulu-Natal under the new political dispensation, a historian, poet and author of many books that are being used in our schools.

Mr. M B Gwala

Mr. Blessed Gwala is an initiator of the project, Member of the KwaZulu-Natal Legislature and former MEC for Public Works in KZN; former District Mayor of Zululand; National Chairman of the IFP; now serves in the Premier’s Portfolio Committee including Royal Household, Community Safety and Liaison.

Canon Hamilton Mbatha

Canon Hamilton Mbatha of the Anglican Church: a respected religious leader with  immense knowledge and experience and who shares a long history with Prince Buthelezi.

Mrs. Inka Mars

Mrs. Inka Mars is a former Member of Parliament who served on various Portfolio Committees and was the former Chairperson of the Red Cross in South Africa, a position that she resigned from when she became a Member of Parliament.

Mr. Richard Bernardo

Mr. Richard Bernardo is a businessman from Mpumalanga and Mozambique who has property in Durban and is very supportive of preserving the legacy of Prince Buthelezi.

Cllr. N Bhanprakash

Cllr. N Bhanprakash is a councillor in the eThekwini Municipality and a businessman who has influence in the business community.

Mr. Les Govender

Mr. Les Govender is a social activist, researcher and former Member of the KwaZulu- Natal Legislature will serve as Secretary.

Mr. A B Tillim

Mr. Bruce Tillim is a prominent business person and a representative of the Nicky Oppenheimer family. 



Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi and Harry Oppenheimer Trust was founded with the view of giving recognition to two of the most influential South African icons of our time as well as some of their most ground-breaking initiatives that will mould some of South Africa's future leaders.
